Cecilia tiene 10 meses y parece que ya quiere hablar. Dice "mamá", "hey", "hola" y a veces parece que balbucea algo más pero no se le entiende.
En casa hablamos dos lenguas: mi marido habla inglés y yo hablo español. Nuestra lengua en común es inglés, aunque a Cecilia le hablo en español. Vivimos en una zona donde la gran mayoría de la gente habla inglés.
Hace unos días un amigo cuyo hijo creció en una situación parecida nos dijo que el pequeño no entiende ni habla español. Y me hizo pensar mucho. Quiero que Cecilia sea bilingüe. Que pueda comunicarse en las dos lenguas indistintamente. Y le quiero enseñar a leer y escribir en español.
He pensado que este blog puede ser útil para otras familias que pasan por lo mismo, e igual podemos compartir ideas y consejos para conseguir que los nenes aprendan dos (o más) lenguas.

Cecilia is 10 months old and she seems to want to talk. She says "mamá", " hey", "hola", and sometimes it seems like she babbles something else but we can't figure it out.
We speak two languages at home. My husband speaks English and I speak Spanish. Our common language is English, although I speak Spanish to Cecilia. We live in an area where most people speak English.
A few days ago, a friend whose son grew up in a similar situation told us that the little one doesn't understand or speak Spanish. And it made me think a lot. I want Cecilia to be bilingual. I want her to be able to communicate in both languages indistinctively. And I want to teach her to read and write in Spanish.
I think th s blog could be beneficial to other families who go through the same, and maybe we can share ideas and advice so that our babies learn two (or more) languages.
